Who We Are

LifeFirst_Naija – First Responder Trainer!

LifeFirstNaija is a nationwide Bystander First Response & Basic Life Support (BLS) training initiative powered by Smiles Network Nigeria. We exist to bridge Nigeria’s critical gap in CPR knowledge, first responder skills, and pre-hospital care, especially in hard-to-reach communities where ambulance coverage and emergency transport are limited.

Our Mission
To train at least two people in every Nigerian household with CPR and bystander first response skills, building a culture of everyday lifesavers who act fast and confidently before professional help arrives.
Our Vision
A safer Nigeria where prompt, skilled bystander action reduces preventable deaths, strengthens community resilience, and complements formal Emergency Response Services.
Why This Matters (Nigeria’s Reality)
A large, youthful population (229+ million) but limited emergency response coverage and few ambulances, concentrated in cities.
50%+ of communities are hard to reach by road, slowing response time.
Hospitals able to respond are few and mostly urban; many PHCs are under-equipped.
Data costs are high and internet access is patchy, limiting online-only training.
The result is significant preventable deaths in homes, schools, markets, roads, and faith centers—often because no one nearby knows CPR or basic first aid.
(These indicators guide our strategy; we focus on practical, low-tech solutions that work in real Nigerian conditions.)
What We Do
BLS & CPR Training: Hands-on courses for families, schools, workplaces, transport unions, and faith communities. Bystander First Responder Skills: Scene safety, ABCD checks, chest compressions-only CPR, choking relief, recovery position, bleeding control, and how to activate transport to care. Train-the-Trainer (TOT): We equip NYSC members, teachers, community health workers, and market/faith leaders to deliver ongoing training locally. Offline-Friendly Learning: Illustrated guides, radio content, flashcards, and community demos for low-connectivity areas. Linkage to Care: Community mapping of nearest clinics/hospitals and transport pathways where formal EMS is absent. Public Awareness Campaigns: Social media, radio/TV, and street outreaches promoting #LifeFirstNaija.
Where We Operate {Launch & Scale}
We run activities across the six geopolitical zones, prioritizing urban hubs and surrounding rural LGAs: Lagos, Abuja (FCT), Port Harcourt (Rivers), Kano, Enugu, Kaduna, with satellite programs extending into nearby hard-to-reach communities. National partners help us expand state by state.
How We Work (Our Model)
1. Community-First: Partner with traditional rulers, religious leaders, market associations, and school heads 2. Youth Power: Embed weekly NYSC CDS delivery for continuous local training. 3. Low-Barrier Tools: Simple language, visual aids, short sessions, repeated practice. 4. Data-Light Follow-up: SMS/WhatsApp tips and refresher challenges where internet is costly. 5. Monitoring & Evaluation: Pre/post tests, trainer logs, attendance registers, and impact stories documenting lives saved.
Partner & Alignment
We collaborate with (and welcome MoUs from): Federal/State Ministries of Health & Education, FRSC, NEMA/SEMA, NOA, NYSC, teaching hospitals, private hospitals/clinics, telecoms (MTN, Airtel), fintech (OPay), banks (First Bank), FMCGs (Indomie), remittance brands (Remitly), media houses, and local NGOs/CSOs.
Impact Goals
Two trained responders per household nationwide (starting with priority states). Tens of thousands of community trainers via NYSC and local champions. Measured boost in bystander CPR attempts and faster activation of transport to care. Documented case reports of lives saved and reduced preventable deaths in pilot LGAs.
